If you extract your files to a folder and use an FTP program to upload to your server then it would take a long time to complete (sometimes hours).
This tutorial will show you how to upload and extract the files on the server which usually will only take minutes to complete.
This Method is the easiest way to upload a package file like Joomla etc.
Once you have downloaded the package file of your choice to your computer log into your cPanel control panel.
In the files column you will see the file manager icon to open the file manager screen.
A popup window may appear asking what directory to open just click ok we will navigate to the public_html directory anyway.
On the left side you will see the directory tree, click and highlight the public_html link. This will open the public_html folder on the right.
Now we are inside the folder it's time to upload the package zip file.
For this tutorial we will be uploading the joomla 1.7 package file.
On the top menu to the left you will see the upload button.
When you click on this another screen will open the upload screen. Click on the browse button to open a browser window of your computer and locate the package file you want to upload.
When you browse to the package file for uploading and click to open it you will see the upload start, this may take a few minutes so be patient. Once completed you will see a completed message you can now close this window or use the Back to /home/mytestsi/public_html link to go back to the public_html folder.
Once back inside the public_html folder if you don't see the package file just click on the Reload button and the page will refresh then you should see your package file uploaded.
Now we will extract it's contents to the main public_html folder.
Click on the package file to highlight it then on the top menu click the extract icon.
A pop up window will appear asking where you wanted the files extracted to. If you are using the package on your main domain just leave it as "public_html" if you are using a different folder then type the folder name after like so.. "/public_html/joomla/". All you have to do then is click on the Extract Files button.
Another pop-up window will appear showing the files being extracted.Once finnished just click the close button and that window will close showing the extracted files in the folder of your choice.
Now you have your package extracted and ready for the installation proccess.
And thats it!
If you have followed this tutorial correctly you now have all files extracted in minutes compared to possibly hours by FTP program.
